Twitter Live Video Downloader

Paste the link to any public X live broadcast and save it as MP4, up to 1080p. Works while it is still live, and records from the start even if you join late.

Record a broadcast that is still live

Paste the link while the broadcast is running and press download. The recording starts from the beginning of the broadcast, not from the moment you arrived, so joining an hour in still gets you the first hour.

It then keeps recording live until the broadcast ends or you stop it. The download does not finish on its own while the stream is running, which is expected. Stop whenever you like: what has been saved is a complete, playable video.

Download a broadcast that has ended

A broadcast the host chose to keep stays on X after it ends. Paste its link and it downloads like any other video, whole, at the resolution you pick, with a progress bar that reaches the end.

A broadcast that was not kept is gone once it ends. That is why people record matches, launches and breaking news while they are happening.

Quality and file size

You choose from the resolutions X is streaming, usually up to four of them, from 320p to 1080p. The video is copied as it was broadcast, with its sound, nothing re-encoded and no watermark added.

At 1080p an hour comes to about 2.5 GB; at 480p closer to 500 MB, which is the sensible choice on mobile data. The file is a standard MP4 that plays on any phone, computer, TV or video editor.

Where the link comes from

Open the broadcast on X, tap Share, then Copy link. A broadcast link looks like x.com/i/broadcasts/ followed by a short code.

There is a faster route: in the address bar of any broadcast, change x.com to downloadthisx.com and press enter. The download page opens with that broadcast already read and ready to record.

On a phone

Everything happens in your browser, on iPhone, Android or any computer, with no app to install. On iPhone the file lands in the Files app under Downloads; on Android it goes to your Downloads folder and appears in your gallery.

When recording a live broadcast on a phone, keep the browser open and in the foreground. Locking the screen or switching apps can pause the recording. For a long stream, pick a lower resolution and stay on Wi-Fi.

Using what you record

Keeping a broadcast you hosted, or watching a public stream later, is ordinary use. So is quoting a short clip under fair use.

Republishing is different. Whoever made the broadcast holds the rights to it, and recording it does not transfer them. This tool reads only what is public and keeps no copy once your download stops.
