How DownloadThisX works
A short explanation of what happens when you paste a link, and what we do and do not keep.
1.You paste a link
We read the post id from the link and ask X for the media it contains. Nothing else about you is sent.
2.We find the original files
X publishes each video at several resolutions. We list exactly the ones that exist, with their real sizes. We never upscale and never re-encode.
3.The file goes to your device
When you press download, the file is streamed from X through our server to you. It is not stored, and no copy is kept afterwards.
What we keep
We record that a download happened, which format was chosen, and the country it came from, so we know which parts of the site are used. We do not record who you are, what you downloaded, or the links you paste.
Why audio files are M4A
The audio inside an X video is already AAC. We copy that track out untouched, which is instant and lossless. Converting it to MP3 would re-encode audio that has already been compressed once, making it sound slightly worse for no benefit.
